Electroformed Metal Bellows
Electroformed metal bellows are a type of metal bellows manufactured using an electroforming process. Compared to traditional hydraulically formed or welded bellows, they possess unique performance advantages.
Electroformed metal bellows are thin-walled, seamless metal bellows produced through an electroforming or electrodeposition process. Instead of being created by machining or welding, they are essentially "grown" into shape.

Manufacturing Process Principle
The basic process is similar to electroplating but is carried out on a removable mandrel:
Mandrel Preparation: First, a mandrel made of aluminum or a fusible alloy is precision-machined (e.g., via CNC machining) to have the exact shape of the bellows' internal profile. The surface finish of this mandrel directly determines the final inner surface quality of the bellows.
Electroforming Deposition: The mandrel, acting as the cathode, is immersed in an electrolyte solution containing metal ions (e.g., nickel, copper, gold). Under an electric field, the metal ions deposit uniformly onto the mandrel's surface, gradually forming a dense metal layer.
Thickness Control: The thickness of the deposited metal layer can be controlled with extreme precision by accurately regulating the current density, time, and electrolyte composition.
Mandrel Removal:
- Chemical Dissolution: For aluminum mandrels, they are dissolved using a solution like sodium hydroxide.
- Thermal Melting: For low-melting-point alloy mandrels, they are melted out by applying heat.
Post-Processing: The result is a complete, seamless metal bellows shell, which may undergo subsequent steps such as cleaning and heat treatment.
