A metal bellows coupling is a high-precision flexible coupling that plays a vital role in precision mechanical drive systems.
Its core component is a thin-walled metal bellows (typically hydraulically formed or electroformed), which connects and transmits power through its own elastic deformation.

The design of metal bellows couplings aims to address three core issues in drive systems:
Compensating for Misalignment:
- Axial Misalignment: Allows for slight relative displacement of the two shafts along their axis.

This is one of its most significant advantages.Because the bellows is a single, integrally formed elastic element, it does not have the clearance found in gear or chain couplings during forward and reverse rotation. This makes it particularly suitable for applications requiring high-precision positioning, such as machine tools and robots.
Working Principle
The two ends of the coupling are rigidly connected to the driving shaft and the driven shaft, respectively, via clamping sleeves (or flanges). The intermediate bellows section acts as an "elastic element." When misalignment exists between the two shafts, it is accommodated by the bending, stretching, or compression deformation of the bellows, rather than resisted by rigid bending of the shafts. Thus, it allows for a certain degree of relative movement while transmitting torque.
